to start, this picture is beautifully detailed and full of colors it feels very natural in lighting and shading but it also seems a little to dimmed in some places on the light side could be a bit brighter but it still fits the picture nicely either way.
now the back ground it lovely all around and again its quite detailed to the setting but is also a little confusing. i love the dark painting behind yin yin and i understand the symbolism to go with shadow nature but some thing about it seems off and over done using the painting to describe her being dark people often use stuff like this to convey a character in art so even though it fits the picture i think you could have used some thing new thats used less. on the light side i love how you made the rays of light coming through the window their clear and realistic the blend perfectly with every thing else.
last thing is another point of confusion in the back ground why so many flowers? why all of the same type i think you over used those flowers they make it a little off balance as a suggestion you could have used white lilies or harmony ikebana flowers [link] to give off more of a variety.
still the picture as a whole is very lovely and you must have put alot of work into it.
I have been challenged by one of my friends to write a story/back-story for all of the pictures in my People favorites. "You need to loosen up, Yin!" Yang exclaims, taking a seat in the window. "Hmp. Easy for you to say." Yin says. "My father would kill me if he found out we went partying a week before the academy finals. He isn't exactly fond of you, you know." "Ha! I'm just outgoing while he expects girls to be delicate, obedient little things." She takes a sip of her tea. "Why don't you just tell him you're helping me study? As much as he hates me, your father knows we've been best friends since elementary school and knows how upset you'd be if we didn't graduate together. You already know all your material, don't you?" "Yes, but I don't even have any of the same classes as you." "Yes, it's obvious by your darker robes and blue undershirt that you're in the more elite classes. That means that helping someone like me with lower classes will be a cinch. You probably learned this material, last year. Besides, you've been studying so much I'm surprised your head hasn't exploded. You need to relax, a little, and have some fun. Please? Do this for yourself." Yin sighs. "Alright, but we have to study a little before we go and...party." "Aww!!! Fine!"
I disagree about the critique given. Because the yin and yang element is what makes this work captivating to me. The same flowers used is symbolic, from what I see. Kudos, futarinokizuna, I faved this one because it's one of the best I've seen
