Interesting work. A bit too clustered and suffocating though. There's so many things going on. I checked some of your other works and I like them better as they are simpler and breathe better. For example I love "A certain cave" - it's colors, gentleness and general atmosphere. I think this would be lovely too if a couple of the items were removed.
thank you so much for your kind critique! it's just a bad habit of mine , if I work on a pic too long, I ended up adding things here and there. Besides in my mind-- this is an expensive commission-- requested a high-detailed background. So yeah, it's kind of a dilemma to me.
You're very welcome. I've been meaning to answer you for many days now. I just never thought I had the moment to give you a proper answer. Now I'll just grab myself and actually answer.
Don't call it a bad habit. If you like it, it's all that matters. If you want to improve, it's only a matter of effort. Based on what you said: maybe it's a matter of you not knowing what's detailed enough for an expensive work? Just throwing a thought out there. But trust me... I know what you mean about overworking the art piece! I often have to stop myself too.
I actually gave the drawing a new look and came to the conclusion that maybe you don't have to reduce the details. Just loosening the cropping a little might help substantially. If you made it a little bit larger, so that the head of the guy and the wings of the angel were completely in the picture, it might look less cluttered and confused without losing the details.
